Need travel help for London – travelling to several places?

I’m coming down to London with my mum in two weeks to see ‘Avenue Q’ at the Gilead Theatre which I’m told is in Shaftsbury Avenue and also to go on the London Eye.

The AA route map tells me that Kings Cross St Pancras (where we’ll be getting off the train and where I’m hoping to book our hotel) isn’t too far away from Shaftsbury Avenue – and I have a fear of heights and don’t like using the escalators on the underground, so wondered whether there was a bus we could get – our show starts at 8pm and would probably end no earlier than 10pm, so we’d need a late-running bus.

I’d also like to know what people think is the best way to get to the London Eye – we would be leaving again from Kings Cross St Pancras. Also would like to know whether there are any places to eat around the London Eye area that people would recommend (our ticket is for 2pm)

Appreciate any help people can give me.

here’s a map of the buses from Kings Cross during the day http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/kingscross-2150.pdf and another one for the night buses http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/kingscrossnightbuses-11679.pdf … the night bus service starts around midnight

the nearest bus to Shaftesbury Avenue would be one going to Tottenham Court Road, which is the 390, 10 or 73 … from Tottenham Court Road station it’s a short walk down Charing Cross Road to Shaftesbury Avenue … for the London Eye the bus 59 goes to Waterloo Bridge

from London Eye if you walk along the Embankment down river to the Royal Festival Hall they have a nice riverside restaurant there … or if you keep walking you’ll come to Gabriel’s Wharf where there are some more nice restaurants (and it’s a nice walk too)
